Helped me stay calm – Autumn, Clearwater
I loved Christie’s calm and down-to-earth demeanor, and her attentiveness to both my and my husband’s expectations, concerns and questions. She immediately became a source of information, providing books and DVDs to help prepare us for our birth experience. As my pregnancy progressed, Christie’s knowledge and reassuring attitude helped me stay calm and unravel the intimidating medical tests and procedures as they came up. She offered alternative therapy options and resources.
My daughter was born via C-section due to her frank breech presentation. She came unexpectedly, in the middle of the night, at 37 weeks. I was thrilled to have a healthy baby girl, but the C-section experience left me with some negative emotions. I felt cheated out of my natural birth experience, that I had missed some special part of being a mother to my daughter because she had been whisked away from me after delivery, and that somehow her inability to flip was my fault.
Christie listened to my feelings and shared her own experiences. She helped me find support groups for new moms and C-section mothers. She told me I was not alone in my feelings, and that it was okay to have them, because at the same time I knew it wasn’t my fault and my daughter and I had a wonderful bond and that every birth is a unique and precious experience.
Christie has become one of the closest and most trusted women in my circle. Her wealth of knowledge, her calm spirit and her open heart make her an amazing support person to have. Any woman would be lucky to have her as her doula.
