Candice Enriquez, certified HypnoBirthing Educator, gives us the lowdown on HypnoBirthing:
1. What will parents learn in a HypnoBirthing class series?
Parents will learn the highly effective method of deep relaxation for birth and how to assist, instead of resist, their birthing body. The classes include hands on practice with the powerful tools of: hypnosis, breathing techniques, visualization guides, and instant relaxation anchors. HypnoBirthing helps both moms and partners have a game plan and a positive attitude for birth. With five personalized hypnosis sessions, women and families learn to release fear and limiting thoughts. Essentially, women are guided to work with their own minds and tune inward to their own amazing instincts.
2. Do the classes cover the basics about birth?
Yes. The classes also prepare women and families with information on:
the hallmarks of labor, various comfort measures, and the best positions for birth.
how to listen to their body with confidence and to conserve energy with a relaxed state of focus.
the function of the nervous system, the operating system for the body, in relation to birth.
the natural expulsive reflex to bring baby out, rather than an antiquated, coached style of pushing.
how partners can support mom during labor.
the importance of skin to skin with baby after birth.
different types of care providers and how to select the right one for their family.
key questions to ask their care providers.
3. What are some of the benefits of the HypnoBirthing method?
In teaching HypnoBirthing we do not promise a particular outcome, but we do promise that using relaxation techniques will help greatly. Some women have found that using the HypnoBirthing method has resulted in a faster and shorter labor and birth. Women have also found it helped them remain calm and resulted in an easier and more peaceful experience. It has also helped families feel more connected with their baby and paved the way for a positive parenting journey.
4. What is one thing that makes HypnoBirthing unique from other childbirth classes?
What makes my HypnoBirthing class unique from other childbirth classes are the in-person guided hypnosis sessions. Parents leave the class feeling excited to greet their baby and grounded in the knowledge of birth. The exercises in the HypnoBirthing book quickly become tangible tools and exponentially better when practiced in class with a trained HypnoBirthing educator rather than read alone. Also, a key feature is the focus on connecting with the baby and allowing this connection to guide mom during birth. This connection is THE motivation for birth! Yes, you can communicate with your baby.
5. Tell us about your training, your certification and your experience; how long have you been teaching HypnoBirthing?
I’m certified with the HypnoBirthing Institute as a HypnoBirthing Educator and certified through DONA as a birth doula. I’ve been teaching hypnosis for birth for four years and absolutely love it. My personal experience using HypnoBirthing, the Mongan Method, led me here. Having used the program with the birth of my daughter I felt it was a hidden gem in our modern culture and immediately was inspired to share this with other women.
6. What is your favorite thing about teaching HypnoBirthing?
My favorite thing about teaching HypnoBirthing is how it embodies conscious living. It walks beside the practice of mindfulness nicely, with the core principals of using an internal sense of self to navigate our responses to the world as we perceive it. There is also a deeply rewarding factor in serving other women through this tender and important time. It’s truly an honor and a calling. Each woman who creates the time and space for HypnoBirthing classes is offering an intention to her unborn child. There is joy in watching this intention grow and observing her confidence rise. Also, serving as a birth doula for HypnoBirthing moms, there is just nothing else quite as astounding and inspirational as observing a focused HypnoBirthing mom in labor.
