When Should I Call My Doula?

Pregnant Woman on a phone call, when should I call my doula?

You’ve decided to hire a doula to help you have a better birth experience. Great plan!

So, now you are asking, when should I call my doula?

Or, how do I best use her services?

There is no wrong time to call your doula for help and guidance.

When you hire Buddha Belly Doulas, we are available to provide you and your partner with unlimited informational support throughout your pregnancy.

If we don’t hear from you first, we will be checking in with you at regular intervals.

These check-ins are an opportunity to see how you are doing, answer any questions and share knowledge. We will also schedule an in person prenatal meeting with you, in the comfort of your home. This usually takes place between 30 – 35 weeks of pregnancy. During this meeting we will listen to understand your goals and preferences. We will also talk through everything that can happen in labor and birth, and how we can best support you. This is also a great opportunity to learn and practice using different comfort techniques

We also always ensure your partner feels supported and included in this journey. It is important to us to build a relationship that feels like the comfort of a close friend, with the skill and expertise of an experienced birth professional.

Buddha Belly Doulas are officially on-call the moment your contract is signed and your retainer is paid.

This means we are available for unlimited text, email and phone support day or night. You may have questions you’d like to ask someone that you trust to provide reliable information and resources, without judgement. Perhaps you have recently learned news about your pregnancy that has raised concerns. Or, maybe you are wondering if that twinge you just felt was really a contraction or simply Braxton Hicks. With your doula team just a phone call away, you can rest assured we are ready to help!

We all know that labor and birth are unpredictable. In most cases, your baby will arrive when they are ready. There is often no certainty on exactly what day that will be. You can feel confident knowing that our team is on alert and prepared to support you at any hour, before and after your expected due date.

Keeping your doula aware of any new developments will allow her to assist you with recognizing how your labor is progressing.

Our team will be on standby waiting to hear from you about any changes you are experiencing. We can talk through what is happening, and help you understand the difference between early and active labor symptoms. Your doula can help you decide if you should head to the hospital or continue at home. Keeping our team well informed will help to ensure you have the support you need, when you need it most.

Our doulas are experts in all things birth. It is our job to empower you so you feel confident and ready. We strive to give you support in all areas of your pregnancy and birth with information you can trust, emotional support you can count on, and the physical support you will need during labor no matter the time of day you need it.

So, call us, text us or email us any time you need the helping hand of your doula. We are here for you!
